GRANITE DEVELOPMENT CORP.
Granite Development Corp. was founded in 1995 by two of Chicago’s African-American business leaders — Joseph A. Williams, president of economic development consultant Target Group Inc., and Larry Huggins, president of Riteway Construction.

Williams, winner of numerous civic and industry awards, has helped secure more than $1.6 billion in business for M/WBEs and 4,000 jobs for Chicago-area residents through Target Group’s work with prominent real estate developers. Huggins made his mark on major commercial downtown developments such as AT&T Corporate Center, the McCormick Place Expansion and Unicom Thermal Technologies facilities. Joining forces in Granite Development, they have undertaken a series of successful Chicago projects including:

  • Hotel Burnham. Granite Development partnered with McCaffery Interests to redevelop the North Loop’s historic Reliance Building as a 122 room European-style boutique hotel.
  • Auburn Lake. As part of Chicago’s thrust for diverse homeownership options, Granite Development worked with Thrush Development to construct 19 single-family and duplex homes in the Auburn/Gresham neighborhood.
  • Jazz on the Boulevard. Granite reunited with Thrush to create Jazz on the Boulevard, a mixed-income community of 137 forsale and rental residences on Drexel Boulevard, between 40th Street and 42nd Place.
  • Save Our Streets. Teaming with Quest Development Inc., Granite is overseeing development and construction for Save Our Streets’ 4.2-acre residential and commercial complex at 76th Street and Parnell Avenue.
